Who will win the Champions League final?
Fans remember the 2018 final well: it was also Liverpool vs Real Madrid then. Forward Mo Salah was injured early after a hard tackle and keeper Loris Karius also blundered. It was the last title for the “White Ballet”, the “Reds” triumphed the following year. Four years later the Spaniards want to finally take the title again. On the other side, the Klopp squad is burning for revenge.
The starting situation is therefore more than volatile. Both are eager for victory. And both have already celebrated titles in the current season: The English side won the FA Cup as well as the League Cup, the “Royals” the championship. While Jürgen Klopp’s team delivered a consistently strong performance, the Madrilenians had some tough times. Still, they always appeared strong in the Champions League. They knocked three top favourites out of the competition – PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City. And their record in the final is impressive. When Real Madrid has made the final in the Champions League, they have always won the title.
I expect an exciting match with chances for both sides. They will have to make the most of them because the defensive lines of the two opponents will only concede a few goals. Therefore, there will be no goal spectacle. Even extra time would not be a big surprise. There is a question mark over the appearance of Liverpool’s playmaker Thiago. If he is out, it will be a serious blow to the “Reds”.
My betting recommendations:
The title holders are about to fold, Bayern didn’t find their groove and Liverpool can already start planning for the semi-finals. The 1st leg matches provided some surprises. We’ve got the preview for the 2nd leg matches of the Champions League quarter-finals for you – betting recommendations included!
Bayern Munich – Villarreal (Tuesday, 21:00 CEST)
Before the 2nd leg at home, Nagelsmann’s eleven are standing with the back against the wall. The Yellow Submarine confirmed their reputation as giant killers and shocked the Bavarians after only eight minutes. Lewandowski and Co. weren’t able to find a way to beat the courageously playing Spaniards. However, the German record champions can still consider themselves lucky as the result could have been much clearer. In contrast to the round of 16 against Salzburg, I now expect the hosts to be facing a hard piece of work. There are too many insecurities in the defence. Müller and Co. were also anything but confident in the league. In addition, Unai Emery traditionally does a good job preparing his team for the opponents and he is a great motivator. There will be no limits to Danjuma and Co.’s will to win. I’m looking forward to a clash with chances on both sides.
My betting recommendation:
Both teams to score a goal (1.77)
All bets on the match!Real Madrid – Chelsea (Tuesday, 21:00 CEST)
Karim Benzema now also kicked Chelsea out of their own stadium with his second hat-trick within only a few weeks. Afterwards, manager of the Blues Thomas Tuchel saw the reason for the current weakness in his team’s tightly packed schedule. Despite ball possession, Havertz and Co. failed to create compelling chances. A clear improvement of performance will be necessary, otherwise there will be no “Miracle of Madrid”. At least in the league, things went well again with a 6:0 victory against Southampton. The situation is different for Ancelotti’s eleven. Domestically, it will be hard for anyone to still take the title out of the hands of Alaba and Co. With their strong collective – and especially with Karim Benzema in top-shape – they are contenders for the title in the Champions League. In their own stadium, I see the Whites as the clear favourites.
My betting recommendation:
Real to win at least one half (1.67)
All bets on the match!Atlético Madrid – Manchester City (Wednesday, 21:00 CEST)
68 percent ball possession, 88 attacks, 15 shots – the victory of the Citizens in the 1st leg was well-earned. However, in the end the 1:0 was only a narrow victory considering the vehement attacking of Guardiola’s team. Again and again, de Bruyne and Co. got stopped by the tight Spanish wall. Therefore, Atlético still stands a good chance to become one of the last four teams. In their own stadium, Griezmann and Co. now also have the fans on their side. I expect another hard-fought duel. The guests will focus on the offence and Simeone’s eleven will have full focus on the defence as always. The decision of who will advance might well only be made in injury time or even extra time.
My betting recommendation:
Fewer then 3.5 goals to be scored (1.28))
All bets on the match!Liverpool – Benfica Lisbon (Wednesday, 21:00 CEST)
Liverpool already have one foot in the semi-finals. Jügen Klopp’s team enters the 2nd leg after a comfortable 3:1. In Portugal last week, there was only one moment that could have caused Darwin and Co. to make this more exciting when the Portuguese reduced Liverpool’s lead to 2:1. Salah and his colleagues could have won even higher. Considering their current shape, I expect the 2nd leg match to be a clear affair. The Reds’ offence is simply too strong and in the back, the defence has barely allowed goals by the opponent in recent matches. Anything but a clear victory would be a surprise.
My betting recommendation:
Liverpool to be in the lead at halftime (1.67)
All bets on the match!Prime football action is guaranteed: The four remaining matches of the round of 16 are on the schedule. Ajax Amsterdam – Benfica Lisbon (Tuesday, 21:00 CET)
Excitement is guaranteed in the duel between the Dutch and Portuguese champions: After a 2:2 in the first leg, both teams have to give their all to remain in the competition. Ajax was the more dominant team in the match, however, Benfica convinced with efficiency. The opponents were anything but consistent in the last weeks, however, both sides have improved their game recently. For me, the hosts have a slight advantage. Erik ten Hag’s team’s strong offensive keeps every defence busy with its speed. Moreover, Ajax won nine of the last ten home matches. The Portuguese side also has a strong collective, but it remains to be seen if Verissimo’s eleven can compete at that level again. I definitely expect a match characterised by the offence and an advantage for the hosts.
My betting recommendation:
Both teams to score at least one goal (1.49)
All bets on the match!Manchester United – Atlético Madrid (Tuesday, 21:00 CET)
Which of these two European heavyweights will be kicked out of the premier competition early? The first leg in Madrid ended with a 1:1 draw. The Spanish put on more pressure, but United keeper de Gea excelled with some saves and thus kept his team’s chances to advance alive. In the last weeks, the Red Devils acted with too little fire in the offence in general and were devilishly insecure in the defence. However, CR7 convinced all critics with his hat-trick on Saturday. On the other side, the Rojiblancos no longer have a defence as compact as they used to, however, they now have a highly dangerous offence. Simeone’s team won three of the last four matches and scored more than 2 goals on average. A heated fight for advancing to the quarter-finals is guaranteed. I see a slight advantage for the guests.
My betting recommendation:
All bets on the match!Juventus Turin – Villarreal (Wednesday, 21:00)
Also here, the first leg ended with a draw. Juventus took the lead with the first attack in a match with only few chances. After halftime, the Yellow Submarines scored the well-deserved equaliser. Both teams weren’t always very secure in their last matches, however, the Old Lady was more focused on results. Allegri’s eleven celebrated four victories in a row, two with the minimum result of 1:0. On the other side, Parejo and Co. only left the pitch victorious after two of their last four matches. Moreover, home advantage is in favour of Juve who are already undefeated for 10 matches in front of their home crowd. In total, I expect thrilling 90 minutes with a slight advantage for the hosts. However, the necessity for extra time seems quite realistic too.
My betting recommendation:
Juventus to score the first goal (1.62)
All bets on the match!LOSC Lille – Chelsea (Wednesday, 21:00 CET)
The last ticket to the quarter-finals will be awarded in this duel: Title holders Chelsea already have one foot in the next round. The 2:0 from the first leg is a comfortable cushion for Tuchel’s team. The Blues didn’t dominate the match for the whole 90 minutes, but their coolness in front of the goal made the difference. In general, the current shape is in favour of the Londoners. Havertz and Co. won their last ten matches. On the other side, Gourvennec’s eleven have been presenting some ups and downs in regards to performance. Ben Arfa and his colleagues lost three of the last eight matches, but most recently they won two matches and achieved a draw. Anyway, I expect a thrilling match with plenty of offence action, the individual qualities favour Chelsea. Wanna bet that the French won’t have enough horse power to kick the title holders out of the competition and will say “au revoir”?
My betting recommendation:
Chelsea to win at least one half (1.48)
All bets on the match!Last week, a total of ten goals was scored in the first round of 16 matches of the Champions League. Fans can also look forward to goals in the next fixtures. We’ve got all the info for the upcoming matches of Europe’s premier competition – betting recommendations included as usual!
Chelsea FC – OSC Lille (Tuesday, 21:00 CET)
The title holders are welcoming the reigning French champions. By the way, these teams cannot complain about the curious repetition of the draw. This fixture also came up in the first attempt. However, it can still be considered luck of the draw for the Blues. Tuchel’s eleven finished Group H in second place behind Juventus and are now facing probably the weakest of the group winners. Domestically, the Londoners are doing fine, they are currently in 3rd place and only had to face defeat three times so far. However, there were too many draws, otherwise Lukaku and Co. would be closer to the top. Ten days ago, Havertz secured the first Club World Cup title for the Londoners. On the other hand, Lille are struggling with their performance in the current season. Domestically, the team of Jocelyn Gourvennec has nothing to do with the fight for the title. For me, there are clear favourites, I expect the hosts to win.
My betting recommendation:
Chelsea to lead at halftime (1.77))
All bets on the match!Villarreal – Juventus (Tuesday, 21:00 CET)
Reigning Europa League winners vs. Italian record champions: The Yellow Submarines showed a very appealing performance in the group stage and finished it in 2nd place just behind Manchester United. The Old Lady, however, celebrated five victories in her group, although the quality of the opponents has to be kept in mind. Domestically, both teams aren’t as successful as they would like to be. Emery’s team is fighting for an international spot and Juve are only in 4th place. I expect a match at eye-level. The Spanish have shown a solid performance in the competition so far. The team from Turin strengthened their offence with Dusan Vlahovic and Denia Zakaria and the duo has already found their place in the new team. Dividing the points is not unlikely.
My betting recommendation:
All bets on the match!Benfica Lisbon – Ajax Amsterdam (Wednesday, 21:00 CET)
An exciting match can be expected in Lisbon: Both teams presented a strong defence in the group stage. Nélson Vríssimo’s team kept a clean sheet in four of the six matches and only conceded goals against Bayern. Also Ajax’ defence was hard to overcome. Erik ten Hag’s young team celebrated six victories and only conceded five goals. There is also danger at the front – 20 goals are top, only Bayern scored even more. I expect the guests to enter the round of 16 with an offensive strategy. I don’t really expect a goal fest, efficiency will be the key.
My betting recommendations:
Ajax to win at least one half (1.42)
All bets on the match!Atlético Madrid – Manchester United (Wednesday, 21:00 CET)
The 1st leg matches are completed with a true clash: Two international evergreens are facing each other. And the fans are looking forward to goals. Because the times when the Colchoneros stood for a hard to overcome defence are over. There are hardly any matches in which Simeone’s eleven doesn’t concede a goal. The Spaniards even made it to the knockout stage with a negative goal difference. There is a similar situation with the Red Devils: The defence is often insecure and Rangnick’s team is only in 4th place due to the differences in performance. However, they showed more solid performances in the Champions League. United fans can now hope again after superstar Ronaldo is scoring again. Anything is possible, goals can be expected on both sides.
My betting recommendation:
Both teams to score a goal (1.84)
All bets on the match!Football fans have been looking forward to it and now the Champions League is finally starting again. And thrilling matches are on the schedule for the start of the round of 16. We’ve got all info about the first matches for you – betting recommendations included as usual!
Paris Saint-Germain – Real Madrid (Tuesday, 21:00 CET)
Last year’s semi-final participants are facing each other already in the round of 16. Therefore, a top team will have to say goodbye early in this Champions League season. Tuchel’s team finished behind Manchester City in Group A, whereas Real Madrid won Group D. Domestically, both teams are on track for the next championship title. While Messi and Co. have a comfortable lead over the team ranked second, it’s bit tighter for the Whites. Only four points separate Alaba and his colleagues from Sevilla and they could only reach a draw against Villarreal on the weekend. I expect a heated duel, goals will be scored.
My betting recommendation:
More than 2.5 goals to be scored (1.60)
All bets on the match!Sporting Lisbon – Manchester City (Tuesday, 21:00 CET)
There is a clear favourite in the second match on Tuesday: While the Portuguese made it to the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time in twelve years, the Citizens have reached the reached the round of 16 for the 9th time in a row. Last year, Guardiola’s eleven only had to face defeat in the final. Of course, now the goal is to win the title. Domestically, everything’s according to plan for Sterling and Co. With a comfortable nine-point advantage over Liverpool, the championship seems to be a formality. However, they have already played one match more. De Bruyne and Co. showed that they are in the mood for goals in the dress rehearsal against Norwich. But also the hosts are in good shape. The duel with top of the table Porto was an ideal preparation. It ended in a heated 2:2 draw which was mostly characterised by heavy scenes after the final whistle. In total, however, I would still rate the English higher. More than a decent result is not to be expected.
My betting recommendations:
Man City to be in the lead at halftime (1.70)
All bets on the match!Red Bull Salzburg – Bayern Munich (Wednesday, 21:00 CET)
On Wednesday, a high-profile encounter is waiting for all fans: Two reigning champions are facing each other in the round of 16 with Salzburg and Bayern. The team from Mozart’s birth place is looking forward to the duel. Firstly, because it’s their premiere in the knockout stage of the Champions League. And secondly, Nagelsmann’s eleven are almost a neighbour. Only 115 kilometres separate Salzburg and Munich. Jaissle’s team is on track for defending the title in the Austrian Bundesliga. Now, Ulmer and Co. want to cause an international sensation. An absolute top performance will be required against the guests who are expected to be much stronger. The Bulls are still missing the rhythm of playing regularly - winter break has just ended in Austria – but the team from Munich is not unbeatable. VfL Bochum proved that recently when they scored four goals against Lewandowski and Co. in the first half alone. Especially the defence seemed insecure. The Bulls will find chances and they need to take advantage of them.
My betting recommendation:
All bets on the match!Inter Milan – Liverpool (Wednesday, 21:00 CET)
The first part of the round of 16 is completed by a high-profile duel between Italy and England. The Nerazzurri are fighting for the Serie A title again. In the group stage, they only lost against Real Madrid. Their opponents Liverpool, on the other hand, finished the first part of the Champions League with a clean sheet. Also domestically, Klopp’s eleven are in good shape and celebrated their fourth consecutive victory in the league. Especially the fast offence, which now includes Mo Salah again, is dangerous. He was playing at the Africa Cup recently. I expect a fight of equals, goals will be scored on both sides.
My betting recommendations:
Liverpool to win one half (1.52)
